The Innovation Co-Lab

The Innovation Co-Lab is a creativity incubator focused on exploring how new and emerging technologies can fundamentally reshape the research, academic, and service missions of the University. Working with their innovation minded colleagues around campus, the Innovation Co-Lab is building a model program that will elevate and inspire Duke students who are solving problems, big and small, through an ever-changing technological environment.

CROSS-CAMPUS INNOVATION:
Redhat, Innovation Co- Lab, Duke I&E and Duke SSRI

A collaboration between Red Hat, Duke I&E, and Duke’s Social Science Research Institute is bringing new open source principles and methodologies to Duke’s campus. A $180,000 gift from Red Hat supports Duke I&E courses, grants for open-source projects administered through the Innovation Co-Lab, and internships through the Open Source Pedagogy, Research + Innovation (OSPRI) program at the university. The first open-source grant was awarded to a student team called eNABLE, which uses open-source methods to build free prosthetic limbs for those who need them.
